Overview

Outpatient Addiction Treatment in Atlanta, GA

Outpatient addiction treatment lets you keep your routine while staying connected to clinical care. You live at home, attend scheduled sessions, and apply the work in your real life as you go.

An Outpatient Program (OP) at Northview Wellness is the lowest-intensity level of outpatient care. It does not require overnight stays, and the schedule is built around what your physician and care team recommend for you. Typically that means less weekly contact than PHP or IOP, with a steady cadence of therapy, medication, and recovery support.

For many people, OP is where long-term recovery actually lives. It is the level that often follows the more intensive work of higher levels of care, and it is where the practice of staying well becomes a routine.

Levels of Care

OP vs. IOP and PHP: What's the Difference?

All three are outpatient programs. None require overnight stays. The difference is how much structure and clinical contact you need each week.

Most Structured

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Full-day clinical care, about five days a week. The closest level to inpatient treatment without an overnight stay.

More Flexible

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Multiple days a week, several hours per session. Structured but with room for the rest of life.

Most Flexible

Outpatient (OP)

Scheduled therapy and medication support. The most flexible outpatient level, built for longer-term stability.

At Northview

Our Outpatient Program at Northview Wellness

Every plan is built around your clinical needs, your treatment history, and where you are in your recovery right now.

For some people, OP is the natural step down after PHP, IOP, detox, residential, or inpatient treatment. For others, it is where treatment starts, when substance use concerns can be safely managed with less intensive support.

Our OP is physician-led. Therapy, medication, and any psychiatric care stay coordinated through the same team that oversees the rest of your treatment. No outside referrals, no waiting on another office, no gaps between providers as your recovery progresses.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A few of the questions we hear most often about outpatient treatment at Northview Wellness. Call us if yours is not here.

What is an outpatient program?

An Outpatient Program (OP) is a structured form of addiction treatment that does not require overnight stays. Clients live at home and attend scheduled therapy, medication appointments, and recovery services based on what their physician and care team recommend. OP is the lowest-intensity outpatient level of care.

Is outpatient treatment the same as IOP?

No. IOP, or Intensive Outpatient Program, is more structured than OP. IOP usually meets several days a week for a few hours per session. OP involves fewer scheduled sessions and is designed for people who are medically stable and ready for more independence, or stepping down from IOP or higher levels of care.

Is OP less intensive than PHP?

Yes. PHP, or Partial Hospitalization Program, is the most structured outpatient level and often involves full treatment days, about five days a week. OP is the lowest-intensity outpatient level, with scheduled therapy and medication support rather than daily clinical structure. Many people step down from PHP or IOP into OP as recovery stabilizes.

Who is outpatient treatment best for?

OP is best for people who are medically stable, have a safe home environment, and need ongoing clinical support rather than daily structure. That includes those stepping down from PHP, IOP, detox, residential, or inpatient treatment, and those whose substance use concerns can be safely managed at a lower level of care.

Can I work while attending outpatient treatment?

Yes. OP is the most flexible level of outpatient care. Sessions are scheduled around work, school, parenting, and other responsibilities, so you can keep your routine while continuing recovery.

Does outpatient treatment include medication management?

Yes. When medication is part of your treatment, it is prescribed and managed by the same board-certified addiction medicine physician overseeing your care. That includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate.

Does insurance cover outpatient addiction treatment?

Many major insurance plans cover outpatient addiction treatment, but benefits vary by carrier and plan. Northview Wellness will verify your benefits before treatment begins so you know exactly what is covered.
